Open your eyes, open your mouth

Synopsis of Campaign:-
TV stations have been asked to stop broadcasting bin Ladens original speeches. Is the price we pay worth it?

Where to contact:-
CNN
CNS
ABC

The proof:-
TV station defends Bin Laden coverage

Why should we act?:-
Censor Osama bin Laden? The argument is that in his speeches he could be sending secret messages to other terrorists. However, there is danger here
The problem is, that even if those responsible truly and sincerely believe that this is possible, censorship marks the beginning of a long and slippery slope. Osama bin Laden is a man not yet proven guilty in any court, however much proof may have been shown in private. The temptation will be, the next time someone is seen as dangerous, to use this as precedent and censor them also. By doing this we are saying you don't even have to prove them guilty of anything.. And so the slope goes on, until people are censored merely for being loudmouths and saying what others don't wish to hear.
If freedom of speech means anything, it needs to apply to all, not just those we agree with. We must take care in fighting monsters, that we do not ourselves become those monsters.
Perhaps, and only perhaps, this would be excusable if the television broadcasts were proven to be the only way bin Laden could communicate with his followers. However, firstly it has not been proven that he is doing so, and secondly this is clearly not the case. We live in a world where anyone with a modem may organize anything, where soccer hooligans can organize rioots through hidden websites. If they can do that, I'm sure bin Ladan need not depend on television.
If we are to fight a war, we need to hear the truth about what we are fighting for. Since clearly neither side is going to give us the truth without propaganda, then all we can do is listen to both sides propaganda and decide for ourselves
